Opelika High School Recognized by CLAS as a School of Distinction

Opelika High School has been recognized by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools as a 2025 CLAS School of Distinction for its Dawg Impact Groups, a daily advisory program designed to strengthen student relationships, support academic success, and increase student connection on campus.
CLAS recognized 32 Schools of Distinction from across the state’s eight State School Board Districts during an awards luncheon on Monday, April 27, 2026, in Prattville. Opelika High School was named a School of Distinction for District 2. The CLAS Banner School program, created in 2001, recognizes Alabama schools that showcase outstanding programs and service to students. This year, 189 schools were nominated statewide.
Dawg Impact Groups, known as DIG, pair each student with a consistent adult mentor and small peer group. Through this daily advisory structure, students have dedicated time to build relationships, receive timely academic and social-emotional support, and develop a stronger sense of belonging at Opelika High School.
The program reflects Opelika High School’s ongoing commitment to supporting the whole student. By creating intentional time for connection, accountability, and encouragement, DIG helps ensure students are known, supported, and connected to their school community.
Since the implementation of Dawg Impact Groups, Opelika High School has seen measurable improvements, including a decline in chronic absenteeism, increased student engagement, and fewer behavior referrals. More importantly, students report stronger connections to school and a greater sense of purpose in their learning.
Opelika City Schools congratulates Opelika High School students, teachers, staff, and administrators on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates their continued commitment to helping every student learn, grow, and thrive.
