Public Relations

The Public Relations Department strives to provide students, parents, community members and the media with timely, concise information on special events and news stories related to the Opelika City School System. The department is responsible for promoting student achievement through press releases, the district website, print materials, and the system's newsletter. The department also oversees the school system's website and social media campaigns, including Facebook and Twitter. In addition, the Public Relations Department utilizes School Messenger, the district's instant telephone calling system to provide parents with important school system news. The department is also responsible for the design and content of district public relations materials.

The Office of Public Relations answers all media inquiries from reporters, coordinates interviews with students and staff and handles all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Alabama Open Record Act requests. In addition, the Public Relations Department is responsible for numerous special events and recognition ceremonies, including the Teacher of the Year program and the annual Employee Retirement Reception.
