What is Title I?
Under the “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) Act parents of children in Title I schools have the right to:
- Request, and the district must provide, information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers.
- Know if paraprofessionals are providing services and what the paraprofessionals’ qualifications are.
- Know if their children have been taught by a teacher who is not highly qualified for four weeks or more.
- Know if their children’s school is in need of improvement, corrective action, or restructuring. The school must notify parents on how they can become involved in school improvement efforts.
- Help create and/or review the school’s Title I plan and program evaluation, and have input into how Title I monies are spent for parent activities.
For more information on No Child Left Behind, visit the official website at www.nochildleftbehind.gov or call the Title I office at (508) 830-4348 for a printed booklet.
