The Opelika Middle School cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleading Association camp at Auburn University, June 4-7.  Each night, they competed with a cheer and a chant and won all superior ribbons.  They also won a spirit stick each night and brought one home.  The OMS cheerleaders also earned a bid to the NCA Nationals and won the Motion Technique Award and Stunt Award.  The squad's coach, Lane Landers, won the Coach's Herkie Team Award.  At camp, each cheerleader had the opportunity to be nominated for All-American cheerleader in the areas of stunts, tumbling, dance, jumps, motions, and leadership.  Nominated cheerleaders then had the opportunity to try out for the All-American team.  Twelve girls from OMS were nominated and six were selected to join the All-American team.  The last day of camp, the squad competed and took home the NCA Top Team Performance Trophy, which earns the squad the opportunity to participate in the NCA Christmas Extravaganza at Disney World.
