Diploma or Exit Options

Alabama Occupational Diploma (AOD)**

Only available to students with disabilities as defined under IDEA—24 required credits. Complete Career/Employment

Portfolio. Prepares students for competitive employment and limited additional post-school options.

Graduation Certificate

Only available to students with disabilities as defined under IDEA—24 required credits or pass the Graduation Exam or

Complete the Individualized Education Program (IEP). Prepares students for their posttransitional goals and may not be accepted

by postsecondary institutions, military recruiters, and some employers.

*Students pursuing the Alabama Occupational Diploma who complete the required AOD coursework and pass all sections of the

Alabama High School Graduation Exam will be awarded the Alabama High School Diploma.

**Students graduating with the AOD or CERTIFICATE are entitled to a free appropriate public education until they exit school with an AHSD or

they reach age twenty-one.

ALL ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA/EXIT OPTIONS DETAILED ABOVE ENTITLES THE RECIPIENT TO ALL

GRADUATION ACTIVITIES AND CEREMONIES.
