The ACT is a curriculum-based college-admission and placement test. ACT measures what students have learned,

and there is no penalty for guessing. The ACT is accepted by all colleges and universities in the United States.

It is recommended that students take the ACT June of their Junior Year.  Most students choose to take the ACT

more than once.  According to ACT, 55% of students who retest increase their composite scores. For more

If a student receives free/reduced lunch, he/she may qualify for a fee waiver, which

covers basic regular registration (including Writing).

Basic registration includes reports for:

  • The student
  • Opelika High School, if requested by the student (School Code 012-055)
  • Four (4) College Choices:
    • Note: Most colleges will only accept an official score if received directly from ACT. 
    • Additional score reports after the test date will cost $10 each. 
    • Student athletes who plan to participate in Division I or II athletics should report their scores to NCAA.

The SAT is a college admissions tests.  It measures critical thinking skills needed for success in college—thinking,

problem-solving and communicating. In addition to the general SAT, there are also SAT Subject tests which 

20 subject-specific tests in the areas of history, math, science, English and foreign languages. Students who like be

considered for the National Merit Scholarship program must take SAT during the senior year AND have taken the PSAT

during their junior year. Opelika High School is NOT a testing center for the SAT.
