The Newbery Newbies from Opelika Middle School recently won the Battle of the Books held at OMS. The quiz bowl style competition between OMS and Drake Middle School is an annual event and a traveling trophy is awarded to the winning team. Each team member is required to read 10 selected books and then develop questions that will be used during the competition. After 25 rounds in which each team answered 6 questions per round, the Newbery Newbies from OMS and the Book Markers from Drake advanced to the championship round. The OMS team won and reclaimed the trophy. Overall, 73 students participated in the event. Congratulations to the Newbery Newbies of OMS!
