Mr. Mason - Principal of Morris Avenue Intermediate School PDF Print E-mail

At Morris Avenue Intermediate School, the education of the child is a TEAM effort involving the student, parent/guardian, faculty/staff and community.  From the moment you enter the school it is apparent that the school is focused on a common goal.  The school selects an annual theme and incorporates it into the curriculum.  “We are ALL*STARS” was selected as the 2009 theme.  “Each year when we announce the theme, the students get excited,” states Nino Mason, principal.  “In fact, I even have former students and family members check with me after they have left Morris Avenue just to see what the new theme is.  It is a way for the students, teachers and families to have ownership of the school.”

As principal of Morris Avenue since 2004, Mr. Mason has seen an increase in technology, an increase in parental involvement and an emphasis on team and grade level planning.  All of which leads the school to become more child centered and meet the needs of every child. “We have a dedicated staff that believes in working together to achieve the common goal of educating all students,” states Mason.  In working with his team of teachers, Mr. Mason encourages them to “think outside the box”.  Whether it is encouraging his staff or congratulating his students on a job well done, Mason believes in being actively involved with his students and teachers.

The ALL*STAR team at Morris Avenue is a group of educators that share a collective responsibility to educate all students that attend this positive and child-centered learning community.  Comments Mr. Mason, “It’s a joy to come to work each day at Morris Avenue.”
