SOFTBALL

Beulah vs. Opelika

The Opelika softball team pounded the Beulah Bobcats 10-0 last week. Rebecca Lindsey struck out 9 while allowing 2 hits. Hillary White went 2-3 with 4 R.B.I. while teammate Kimmy Gillock added a hit and 2 R.B.I.

The Opelika varsity softball team finished 4th in the Central Alabama Classic. The Lady Bulldogs beat Auburn, Benjamin Russell and Horsehoe Bend.

O.H.S. vs. HORSESHOE BEND

The Girls defeated Horseshoe Bend 4-1. Kelsey Pelham pitched 4 strong innings, allowing only 3 hits and yielded only 1 run, to pick up the win. Opelika was led at the plate by 3 hits apiece from Hillary White, Lara Teel, Kimmie Gillock and Kalee Bugg. White and Bugg both had doubles. Rebecca Lindsey added a single.

O.H.S. vs. Benjamin Russell

Opelika defeated Benjamin Russell 5 to 4 in the second game of the tournament. Rebecca Lindsey earned the win by pitching 5 innings, striking out 6 and allowed 2 earned runs. The Lady Dawgs were paced by, Kimmie Gillock, Hillary White, Tiesha Williams and Jasmine Sydnor. Each player had singles.

O.H.S. vs. AUBURN

The O.H.S. softball team beat cross town rival Auburn 12 -4. Five players had at least 2 hits apiece, Rebecca Lindsey, Hillary White, Tiesha Williams, Maria Mitchell and Jasmine Sydnor(homerun). Rebecca Lindsey won her 2nd game of the tournament. She pitched 3 and a third innings while reliever Kelsey Pelham finished the game.

The varsity softball team will participate in the Auburn Spring Tournament March 5th and 6th.

TENNIS

The Opelika girls and boys tennis teams defeated Prattville, the girls won 7-2 while the guys won 9-0

The girls winners in single matches were Allison Lazenby, Meagan Wade, Meg Larson, Anna Lazenby, April Wade and Ashley Robertson. Double winners were A. Lazenby/Larsen, Wade/Wade and Rachel Bryant/Kelcie Carpenter.

The girls will travel to Montgomery on Tuesday, March 9th for a match with Trinity. The boys will return to action on March 23rd hosting Auburn.

BASEBALL

The varsity baseball team went 1-3 last week making their record 2-4 on the young season.

The Dawgs lost 2 games in the “Field of Dreams” tournament in Dadeville.

DAWGS vs. Jeff Davis

The Opelika baseball team lost a heart breaker to Jeff Davis 4-3 on a 2 run homerun in the top of the 7th inning.

Taylor Daniel pitched a strong 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits and striking out 6. Jonathan Turner finished the game pitching.

Tyler Rogers, catcher, continues to lead the Dogs with 3 hits, 2 R.B.I. and scored a run. Chris Gothard added 2 hits, a walk and recorded a sacrifice bunt.

DAWGS vs. BRHS

Benjamin Russell beat Opelika 10-3 in the final game of the Field of Dreams tournament. The Dogs managed only 4 hits , struck out 10 times and allowed 6 unearned runs on 6 errors.

Blake Smith and Tyler Peppers both doubled and Tyler Rogers added the other 2 hits.

The Dogs beat Brantley and lost to Enterprise earlier this week.

JUNIOR VARSITY BASEBALL

The Opelika J.V. team held the annual OPELIKA J.V. TOURNAMENT at Bulldog field last week. The junior Dawgs won 2 games but lost in the championship game to Smith Station.

The Smith Station junior varsity baseball team defeated Opelika 13-3 to win the J.V. Tournament. The Dawgs were led at the plate by hits from Duncan Asbury, Sawyer Stephens, Jared Harper, Kyle Gothard, Doss Arnold and Taylor Grigsby.

The J.V. team is made up of players from the middle school and high school. Next game will be March 5th at 4:00 o’clock at Bulldog field.

J.V. SOCCER

The O.M.S. soccer team beat cross town rival Auburn 5-3. Khalil Bell and Adrien Parker scored 2 goals each while Betts Waller scored a goal.

The Opelika  boys Junior varsity soccer team defeated Central 2-1 to improve to a perfect 3-0 record. Stephen Alvarado scored a goal and teammate Tevin Stinson won the game on a corner kick goal.

The J.V. girls soccer team defeated Central 4-0. Opelika’s Imberly Kiger and Danielle Martin scored 2 goals apiece.

NOTES

OPELIKA MIDDLE SCHOOL

Opelika school superintendent Dr. Mark Neighbors, O.M.S. Athletic director John Wilson and Baseball coach Barry Hightower have agreed that the Middle School will start a baseball team next year. The talks are ongoing and details are not complete. The team will probably use Miles Thomas field. The school system will fine tune the facility to meet the needs of the baseball team.

VARSITY FOOTBALL

The A.H.S.A.A. informed Opelika A.D. and head football coach Brian Blackmon that Opelika has been invited to participate in the annual KICKOFF CLASSIC August 24th at Crampton Bowl in Montgomery.

The Bulldogs will play Greenville High School @ 7p.m. on Friday night. 2 games will be played Saturday. Auburn High will play Spain Park on Saturday in one of the 2 games on Saturday Aug. 25th.
