OPELIKA BASKETBALL

The varsity boys basketball team improved to an impressive 7 and 0 this past week by winning 5 games in a 6 day span.  O.H.S. defeated Lanett, Valley, and 3 games in the Tiger Communication Tournament including Auburn High School.

OPELIKA vs. AUBURN

The Dawgs used 25 points from Jacolby Payne to pound the Tigers in their own tournament 71-49.

Head coach John Wadsworth , in his 3rd year, was proud of his team winning 5 games in a week “I am so proud of all these players. They reached way down to pull off the win. We are happy to be 7 and 0 but the season just started.”

Starting the 4th quarter Opelika held a 7 point advantage. The Dawgs opened the last period by scoring 12 straight to lead 51-34 with 5 minutes left. “I thought our pressure bothered them. We want an up-tempo game and play man to man defense.” Coach Wadsworth added.

The victory was Opelika’s 4th in a row over Auburn dating back to last year. Opelika junior Jacolby Payne was the M.V.P. of the tournament.

O.H.S. will travel to Russell Co. Friday, to Lanett Saturday, and at home next Tuesday vs. Central in a key region game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

First year head coach Devin Booth has her team playing great basketball. The lady Dawgs are 5 and 2 on the season. Her team has been off for a week and returns to the court Friday at Russell Co. and will return home next Tuesday the 15h vs. Central in a region game.

WRESTLING

The Opelika wrestling team defeated Benjamin Russel34-33 and Central 51-21 to pick up 2 team wins at home.

The Dawgs finished 5th in Dalton Ga. at the Carpet Classic. Brian White finished 3rd at 103ibs.,D.J. Richardson placed 3rd in the 135lbs. and Rico Lewis placed 3rd in 160lbs.

Next up for the team is the annual SWEDE UMBACH TOURNAMENT December 11-12.

WRESTLING

The Opelika Middle School wrestling team won the Vestavia Invitational in Birmingham. 1st place finishers are Chance Wornock, Reggie Bush, Karlous Cox, and Chase Baker. Placing 2nd were Ethan Knight, Will Scroggins, Charlie Davis and Quen Whitlow. Finishing 3rd were Adrien Pitts, Dalton Scoggins, Sawyer Stephens and Quay Dawson.

In the 9th grader meet, Carter Neighbors and Deshun Pullian finished in 3rd place.

BASKETBALL

The 8th grade basketball team is 5 and 0. The team defeated Beauregard 46-31 and Wacoochee Junior High 36-33.

The 7th grade team is 2-0 with a win over Wacoochee 48-19.
