BASKETBALL
The Opelika varsity boys basketball team defeated Valley 74-67 to improve to 2-0. Junior forward Jacoby Payne, poured in 24 points and grabbed 14 boards to lead the Dawgs. Teamate Martrez Hunter added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Dawgs improved to 3-0 with a 65-52 win over Wetumpka. Jacoby Payne and Hunter recorded double-doubles. Payne scored 16 and grabbed 11 boards while Montrez scored 11 and pulled down 10 rebounds. Jamarious Blount also scored 14.
The Opelika Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-1 with victories over Valley ,60-34, and Wetumpka 70-39. Alicia Beasley was the top scorer against the Rams while Gabby Clifton and Kayla Whatley scored 18 points a piece in the win over the Indians.
The varsity boys will play in the Auburn High Tournament this week until December 5th .Both varsity squads will travel to Beauragard Dec. 8th
MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL
The O.M.S. 8th grade basketball team is coached by Brandon Johnson. This is a list of the team. JAKEL MITCHELL, MALCOLM BUGGS, KENNETH KEITH, ALDREECUS WILSON, LAQUAN GLENN, HYKEEM GRAHAM, SHONTEZ TOLBERT, SHON ROGERS, JARVIS JOHNSON,DECARLO SHERMAN, JAQ TOLBERT, MARQUIS FULTON, LADARRIUS GOPHER AND TRE HOLSTICK.
The Middle School beat Long Cane 33-24 in the season opener. The 8th graders pounded Callaway Middle School in Ga. 62-42. Shontrz Tolbert scored 12 to lead the team while Aldrecouse Wilson added 9 points.
The Middle School 8th grade team improved to a perfect 3 and 0 after defeating Russell Co. 47-30. The Dawgs were led by Kenneth Keith’s 11 points and Malcolm Buggs 8 points. The Dawgs Jakell Mitchell and HyKeem Graham grabbed 6 rebounds each.
GIRLS
The O.M.S. girls team are a perfect 4 and 0. Coach Sarah Chandler team downed Long Cane 52-13. The
girls beat Calloway 50-15 behind Kamerian Williams and Kendall Adams
who had 12 points each.
The last game before Thanksgiving was a 45-11 victory over Russell Co. Kamerian Williams led the team with 10 points while teammates Kendall Adams and Simone Cannon added 8 points each.
The Middle School will return to play South Girard in Phenix City December 7th at 4:30 with the girls tip and the boys to follow.
WRESTLING
The Opelika High School wrestling team went 4-1 at the “BATTLE OF THE BORDER” DUALS hosted by Central High in Phenix City. The Dawgs beat Russell Co. 63-18, LaGrange twice 55-27 and 63-16, and Shaw 60-24. Hardaway defeated O.H.S. 42-32.
Five Opelika wrestlers were undefeated, Brian White at 103lbs., Cole McCarty at 125lbs., Jonathan Bright at 130lbs., Rico Lewis at 169lbs. and Xavier Drake at 189lbs.
The wrestling team will host Central and Benjamin Russell December 3rd starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Sports arena on the O.H.S. campus.
